Nomos Club Sport Neomatik 34

Sophie's Review of a Genuine Tool Watch for Women

Before I begin raving about the New Nomos Club Sport Neomatik in 34mm I want to set the scene of how I came to discover it.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m quite a dramatic person. But what I write here today comes from the sincerest place. I was fortunate enough to be invited to the 5th Annual Nomos Forum this year (2024). To say I was excited about the visit would be an understatement. It was a trip of many firsts. My first trip to Glashütte, a watch manufacturer, my first trip away for ‘work’ since having kids over 6 years ago, and my first Nomos Forum.

There were no expectations going on this voyage other than a desire to be ready to learn, connect with my fellow watch geeks and hopefully have some fun along the way.

Before the ‘pilgrimage’ to Glashütte I had arranged with the lovely people of Nomos to take two Tetras with me (the Tetra 29 in Aubergine and the Tetra 27 Duo) in order to review these watches, which I had my beady eyes on for a while. This meant I could style my outfits whilst I was there around this iconic Nomos design, as I don’t currently own a Nomos and I definitely didn’t want to be the only one at the Forum without a Nomos on my wrist. A big faux pas (in my eyes).

Fast forward to the evening before the forum, wearing the Tetra 29 in Aubergine (a suitably dressy watch for the occasion). Nomos graciously welcomed everyone with open arms and treated us all to a delicious buffet style dinner in the most beautiful place in Dresden that felt like a Palace. (Side note: if you ever get the chance you must visit Dresden. It’s absolutely stunning.) The dinner was a great way to set everyone at ease and get people chatting and mingling before the big day (much like a rehearsal dinner for a wedding). I had a wonderful time getting to know new friends, chatting to old friends and of course the obligatory watch swapping and admiring everyone’s wrist candy.

After very little sleep due to the excitement and anticipation I dutifully donned the beautiful Tetra 27 Duo and what I considered the perfect smart casual outfit including 4 inch heels (which in hindsight was not the most practical choice considering the hills of Glashütte and suitcase full of outfits I pulled along) piled onto the coach along with my watch mates and made our way to the Nomos factories. We were shown down to the tiniest detail, the process of making a watch from start to finish over two factories. It was magical. I know the term ‘in house’ movement can be overused and exaggerated in the watch world, but rest assured that over 90% of any Nomos watch is made on site in Glashütte. So impressive.

By this point I had completely forgotten that there were novelties going to be shown at the forum. My mind was buzzing with so much new information, but as we all found our seats in the converted Nomos ‘Church’, reality hit home. I was actually there amongst some of the most respected minds in the watch world, about to get my first glimpse of some incredible watches never seen before.

As you may have seen from watch news, first came the Tangente 2 Date with the incredible new caliber, then the Orion and Tangente Neomatik D’Oro. Watches I was happy to see, but which didn’t get my little heart racing.

Then came the ‘pièce de résistance’. The Nomos Club Sport 34mm. A watch I had been asking for ever since I became an ‘influencer’ (In fact it’s because of my YouTube video I made about suitable alternatives to my Rolex OP that I even had a relationship with Nomos). A watch so perfect I made an audible gasp when it appeared on the big screen. A stunning DUW 3001 in house automatic luxury sports watch made for women in mind, with exhibition case back, quick release bracelet, 200m of water resistance, Superluminova lume, three dreamy colour ways on a sunburst dial, so slim, so elegant and NO DATE! Best of all, priced at well under three thousand euros (from 2,480 euros for closed case-back). A huge chunk cheaper and way more attainable than a Rolex OP.

Watches marketed for women with these specifications are often few and far between, and there’s usually a compromise. So, to see this perfect watch with all these incredible qualities at a price that I and many others can afford made my heart happy.

So I did what any slightly unhinged fashion forward watch influencer would do. I made a full on fashion montage on the main stage (putting to use the suitcase full of outfits I had brought, just in case there had been an opportunity to photograph some watches and make a montage). The most miraculous part of all this was every outfit I had, blended perfectly for each colour of the dial. Gold, Purple and Rosé. It was written in the stars. I am forever grateful to Alexa Montag from Nomos for her help with the costume changes and support. Alexa if you’re reading this thank you and you’re an absolute legend! A big thank you to Jens Schwan (@theclubmap on IG) for taking some amazing pictures of me in action on the day too and hunting me down to make sure I received them.

So after pulling off a pretty hilarious spectacle in front of a whole bunch of serious watch people, and basically missing a large chunk of the wonderful Michelin star lunch (that unfortunately I had to eat in a hurry, but was absolutely outstanding) sat down to a talk with Kamilla Richter, a Fashion Stylist and Consultant, which resonated with me so utterly profoundly I was moved to tears. The talk was about fashion and styling in the watch industry and how important it is to connect the two as a watch IS a fashion statement after all. Something I’ve been championing ‘aggressively’ from day one of my watch adventures.

As a woman in the watch world who enjoys spreading joy and having fun with style, I sometimes feel isolated among ‘serious’ collectors, journalists, and watch enthusiasts. However, Kamilla's speech confirmed my thoughts loudly and proudly, which was incredibly inspiring. You can appreciate a watch's design, movement, and aesthetic while considering how it fits into your wardrobe and daily life. This aspect of horology is often underrepresented and overlooked. Life’s little pleasures, like matching a watch dial to your outfit, can bring joy throughout the day. It was mind-blowing to see Germany's largest watchmaker dedicate a significant portion of their forum to this topic in a room predominantly filled with men.

So I left Germany with a new found sense of purpose, and a watch that I consider to be perfect. No notes. It has everything on my list of wants when looking for a watch. No compromises, which is very rare in the world of women’s watches. Bravo Nomos. Bravo.
